Keeve’s first competition….. he was all smiles.
Austin glided in on one skate and lifted the puck to the top corner…. twice. Sweet poetry in motion.
Today was the Ace Bailey’s Got Skills hockey competition here in Glendale. Both of our boys competed…. in four skill events: fastest skater, accurate shot, shoot out, and hardest shot. The winner of each event is invited to nationals in Boston in June. Unfortunately, both boys were SECOND fastest skaters in their divisions. Austin lost by 1/100th of a second. We were really impressed with how well they both did. The fact that Keeve won second fastest skater is a bit of an anomaly… he is so easy going, slow mo, my poky little puppy… but fast on the ice. Who knew?!
The good news was that Austin won the accuracy shot competition with 4 out of 6 shots in… and is invited to Boston. With all that is going on in this household (adoption, my book release, homeschooling, drama and two hockey teams) I’m not sure we will be participating in nationals this year, but we’ll see. For those who don’t know, Austin went to nationals in Brooklyn last June and won fastest skater in Squirt House division for the nation. When all was said and done, he beat 1,500 kids nationwide… amazing. He moved up a division this year and was competing against kids 18 months older than himself.
It was a cold day at the arena, but a great experience for my guys. We are all going to bed early tonight… even this hockey mom.
