Not many kids’ movies make me laugh out loud. But Kung Fu Panda did. We have been awaiting the arrival of Kung Fu-ier for weeks. Today is the day. But we cannot go without Rick, as he makes the Kung Fu experience so much richer! Last time, he laughed until he cried. The big guy sat in the theater surrounded by children and wiped the tears from his eyes without shame. Then all the kids laugh at him as well as the movie. It’s priceless. YES! Tonight, the noodle dream is relived.

May 26, 2011Yet Another Tribute to Mr. Thrifty
March 8, 2011It’s Tuesday night. $2 night at the cheap theater Silver Saver Cinema here in Phoenix. Our youngest son doesn’t really have a tough task talking his father into accompanying him to the movies on Tuesday nights. It’s becoming more regular that date night. (I just realized that….. and that’s no good!) Tonight was nothing out of the ordinary… Jack Black playing in Gulliver’s Travels. They did invite me, but I simply could not bear to see a brilliant Jonathan Swift story blown to bits by Jack Black. That’s a big NO, THANK YOU!
So as Pop and his son are getting ready to leave, some thrift-mocking occurred, primarily showered on my dear husband by myself and my 17-year-old protégé daughter. I inquired if he was saving us money by taking the “IT’S SHOW TIME” large, refillable KFC-style popcorn buckets that he saves and stores in our closet. Seriously, I think some have been there for years. Imagine the dust and bugs in them….. gross me out. He laughed and said, “Not any more.” WHAT? Yes, he brought one the last time he and our youngest son did the $2 Tuesday deal. He placed it up on the counter for his refill and the manager exclaimed, “So, you haven’t been here in over a year!” Oh my word! I’m so glad I wasn’t there. I didn’t bother asking if they refilled it or not. I thought those were refillable only on the same visit. More-than-a-year later is stretching the same visit clause. But even after the manager’s comment…… they are still in our closet. Here, look:
Rick, if you read this blog, can you please answer a few questions for my readers?
1. Did the manager refill the more-than-a-year-old bucket with popcorn?
2. If he did not, why are they still in the closet?
3. Were all the funny parts in Gulliver’s Travels in the preview?
Thanks, Hon. XOXOXO
Joy!
February 17, 2010Ok, I so laughed when I found this picture of a GUY wearing this shirt! Live! Love! Laugh! Scrapbook!
Tonight my sister flies in from Washington and tomorrow we leave for four days of scrapping in the pines of Northern Arizona. It calms my soul and brings peace to my heart as I anticipate our next four days of relaxation. Yes, we go twice a year. Yes, we stay in a 1970s decorated cabin. Yes, someone cooks and cleans for us. Yes, we just stay in the cabin and scrapbook. But we also leave once in a while for a hike or two… and we watch movies. Girlie movies with love and romance and laughter and bliss. See why I like this outing so much? And we laugh. Til we cry. And then we laugh some more. It’s basically an emotional release weekend without hubbies or kids.
This year I am prepared to work on a 2009 family album. I usually do “event” albums of Christmas, or one holiday or vacation. But I figured out that I don’t have the day-to-day photos in a book for all to see. So I printed about 27 hundred photos from 2009 and I already made the first double page spread of each month. I’m SO ready!
But first I have to unpack my suitcase… and wash my favorite comfy clothes. Then re-pack my suitcase.
I’ve given up making menus for my family for the time I’m away…. it seemed the more effort I put into making meals, schedules, grocery shopping, etc…. the more often the family went out to eat. So now, I do nothing, other than replenishing the fruit bowl before I leave. (I did that yesterday.)
I will take my laptop, so I may blog, but no promises from this girl. Nope. There is only internet service if you drive to the front of the campground and sit in this one spot. And even then, it’s iffy. So, as I said, no promises.
Have a grand weekend. I will.
AAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!
October 7, 2008This picture pretty well sums up my night, well, minus the rose petals, floating candles, long stem rose, wine bottle and nicely tiled walls. It was church night and I was set to go with the family at the front door… on time. My dear hubby knew I have had a bit of busy-ness going on and I’m not sure if it’s stress related, but I got pink eye again. Only in one eye. So as we’re standing by the front door tonight, he says, “Why don’t you just stay home.” I had second thoughts and third thoughts. My desire is to be a good example to the kids, but just maybe it was Rick’s turn to be a good example of a loving husband to the kids tonight.
So I DUSTED all the candles surrounding my tub (thanks, Jill, for letting me know that you have to dust them), found a jack knife and dug out the bits of wax left in the candelabras. Picked new lavender candles and dripped the wax in to secure them. That task always reminds me of the movie Amazing Grace… William did that one romantic evening. Then I found an enchanting little British movie on Netflix and calmly watched it amongst my glowing candles.
Like I said, AAAAAAHHHHHHH! The movie was about an old woman who moved into a hotel in London and befriended a young writer, after tripping on the pavement outside his flat. It was charming. Made me want to find an old person and just listen.
O.K., back to reality. Rick just asked what all the fuzz is in his bathroom sink. “I dusted the candles,” the lame housekeeping wife responded. :o)
Unbelievable….
April 6, 2008We’ve had a BUSY weekend, fo-sho. (That’s gangsta talk for “for sure”… thanks to my 14 year old daughter, who is a little gangsta herself.)
What is so unbelievable, you ask? I found out today that the short-cut-only-2-mile road to the dump was open the entire time I was driving 7 miles the long way around. It figures, doesn’t it? And with the current prices of gas… I could’ve bought a new pair of shoes!
Anyway, we farmed out each of the kids and it is movie night here. WOOOoooo HOOOOoooo!
No blogging time tonight. Maybe tomorrow.
Hope your weekend was FAB! XOXO, Linda
