Plans Gone Awry

November 14, 2010

In my perfect little world, I was sending out adoption/thank you/Christmas cards this year.  They are all addressed.  Since the decline of our referral in October, I’ve realized that they will not be sent until 2011.  Another year when I don’t have the heart to send out Christmas cards.  One of our family members is missing!  How can I send incomplete family pictures?  I cannot.  And that is the end of that.  I might do an email update for curious minds and those whom we only correspond with at the time of Jesus’ birthday celebration.  Then again, I’m sure many would be thrilled to get a Christmas card that is a few months late…. that is complete.

This morning, while whipping up Grandma’s Swedish pancakes, I put in the first Christmas CDs of the season.  Not a child came downstairs that did not comment on the yule tide tunes…. and we had two extra childs too.  :o)  BUT, then Third Day’s song came on…. Merry Christmas.  The lyrics came dribbling out of the stereo of another Christmas when your child is not home.  Good grief.  This is not GOOD grief…. this is SAD grief!  Talk about killing me softly with his song!

Staying positive is my goal this holiday season.  But, for heaven’s sake, this is the FOURTH Thanksgiving and Christmas without our baby girl.  My only hope is that we get the referral before Christmas and I can hang her Precious Moments First Christmas ornament on the tree because I’ll know her birth year!  Oh please, oh please.

RSVP - Lakinzie Collector Doll

On Saturday in a hearty attempt at garage saling with my husband… I did find another Groovy Girl doll for my little girl.  It’s the little joys that keep me going right now.

Fall is Here – Part 2

FALL 029

Last night I broke out the Fall decorations for the table.  What sings FALL more than a horn of plenty???  I don’t know either.  And who thought of putting the plenty in a horn?  And why a horn?  What type of horn did they plentify?  Makes me wonder, that it does.  So, I don’t really collect Precious Moments, per se.  But I do have a nice little collection for the Fall table with Indians and Pilgrims sharing the bounty, even though they didn’t have a horn for their plenty.  The Mamas on the back of the napkin holder both have tears falling from their eyes…. so thankful.  Been there.  Done that.  I also have the candlesticks, but alas, there were no candles to be found last night at 11:43, so they’re still in the box.

fall 2 001

One day I would like to add to my Fall table arrangement one of my favorite Precious Moments pieces titled, Brotherly Love, which is pictured on the salt and pepper shakers.  It’s just so cute with the gigantic drumstick.

My husband is of Canadian First Nations Native Indian descent (politically correct enough???) and I’m as pilgrim-white as they come. I’ve had these same decorations appearing on my table for over 15 years now.  Once when the display was displayed my daughter looked at each little piece and noticed each little detail that her little eyes could behold.  (Like mother, like daughter.)  She got a sad look on her chubby little face and told me that she felt sorry for me.  “WHY?” I asked.  “Because you’re the only one in our family who is only half-Thanksgiving.”  Meaning: my husband and kids are all Indian and Pilgrim… I’m just a pilgrim.  So thoughtful.  Next time I’m filling out a questionnaire that inquires of my nationality I’m writing “half-Thanksgiving.”

NOW it feels like Christmas… fa la la la la!

December 12, 2008

The goal upon eyes opening this morning was to get the Christmas decor set straight and the boxes thrown in the garage.  With three children instructed to complete the task given and report back for the next task, all was done in only two hours.  Marvelous!  Here is a peak at winter in Arizona… holding the prominent location at the entry table, Mary, Jo and the baby Jesus…. along with various animals, angels and others.  Precious Moments nativity pieces are the only thing I really collect… and with the entry table full and some angels still hiding in their boxes, I don’t know if I really need the lighted inn, the palm trees or the wisemen on camels.

The table is set and the snowmen are smiling.  So am I.  The cheesy plastic snowmen placemats are for every day use to protect the table cloth.  All was lovely and bright and in place for approximately 13 minutes before four blobs of Crunchy Taco Hamburger Helper missed the cheesy plastic snowman and hit the bright and clean table cloth. {{{sigh}}}  (Yes, votive candles are on my shopping list for the little snowflakes… and nuts and candy for the empty squares.)

With no snow in sight, we do what we can.

Without warning, I was overcome with emotion when I pulled three Precious Moments Baby’s First Christmas ornaments from the box, knowing that one is missing from the tree.  The minute I discover Zaza’s birth year, I’m on eBay finding her ornament to complete the set.

Yes, my Christmas tree is blue.  I love blue.  It makes me feel cool under our clear blue skies of December.  Merry Christmas!
